UNILAG Postgraduate Admission Requirement

To obtain the application form for the UNILAG School of Postgraduate Studies, you must meet specific requirements. Here they are:

1. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

• Candidates must pass English and Mathematics at the O’ level (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB) to meet matriculation requirements.
• Graduates who have obtained at least a third-class honors degree from the University of Lagos or any other recognized university.
• Individuals who hold a Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least a Lower Credit grade from recognized institutions are eligible.
• Holders of any other qualifications, along with relevant field experience deemed acceptable by the University.

2. Masters Degree

• Candidates must have credits in English Language and Mathematics at the O’ level (e.g. WAEC, NECO, NABTEB).
• UNILAG graduates with approved 1st degree, 2nd Class Honours (Lower).
• Degree with 3.00+ CGPA or 2.40-2.99 CGPA + 3 years post-graduation.
• Candidates who have obtained a Third Class honors degree and have at least five years of post-graduation experience are eligible to apply.
• Applicants must possess a Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Lagos or any recognized institution with at least a pass at the credit level.
• Candidates whose degrees are unclassified, but have an average grade of C or above, are eligible to apply.
• Candidates need a Higher National Diploma (minimum credit) from recognized institutions and a Postgraduate Diploma (minimum pass at credit level) from the University of Lagos in relevant areas.

3. Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) and Masters by Research Degrees

• Graduates who have obtained an approved first degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from the University of Lagos or other recognized institutions.
• A Second Class Honours Degree with a substantial amount of pertinent industrial experience is required.

4. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree

• Graduates who have obtained a Master’s Degree relevant to the proposed areas of study from the University of Lagos.
• Graduates from other recognized universities who hold a master’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale.
• Candidates for the Ph.D. programs may be required to pass a qualifying examination and/or undergo a probationary period not exceeding 12 calendar months.

How to Apply for UNILAG Postgraduate Admission Form 2024/2025

1. Visit the University of Lagos School of Postgraduate Studies Portal at http://spgs.unilag.edu.ng. Click on the 2024/2025 Applications link.
2. Please check your availability and confirm your eligibility for the desired course.
3. Click the “Application Form” link and choose the Postgraduate option from the Application Type menu.
4. Complete the Pre-Application Form to receive a Payment Reference Number. Please print the payment advice.
5. Kindly proceed to make a payment of the non-refundable fee of N30,000.00 (Thirty Thousand Naira Only) for the form and charges using any of the options below:
   a. Remita Payment: Any commercial bank can process payments using the RRR number shown on the payment advice.
   b. To make a payment online, click the PayNow link to use your bank debit card directly on the portal.
6. After making the payment, return to the School of Postgraduate Studies website http://spgs.unilag.edu.ng. Click on the 2024/2025 Application link, then select the “Continue Application” link. Log in using your ‘Payment Reference Number’ and enter your surname in lowercase as the password.
7. Please complete the application form and upload a digital passport photograph in JPEG format. The picture must be no larger than 15KB and have a white background. The acceptable dimensions are a width of 275 pixels (or 35mm) and a height of 314 pixels (or 40mm). Failure to comply with these image format specifications may result in disqualification.
8. Please make sure all the information is correct before clicking the “SUBMIT FORM” button. If there are any mistakes, click the DECLINE button and continue. Once you have submitted the form, editing it will incur an N1,000 charge, so please fill it out completely before submitting it.

Applicants are to note the following:

• Candidates should thoroughly examine the prerequisites for their preferred programs to make sure they are eligible.
• Candidates who have not completed their National Youth Service Corps assignments, are not eligible if they are awaiting Bachelor’s degree results are currently undergoing Postgraduate programs, or are Nigerian citizens.
• Individuals who have obtained degrees from Outreach/Satellite campuses are not eligible.
• Every applicant must upload all listed credentials on the application form for admission, including (a) Degree Certificates (excluding Statement of Results), (b) NYSC Certificates, and (c) Professional Certificates.
• Academic transcripts must be submitted to the Secretary of the School of Postgraduate Studies via post or email at [email protected] no later than the start of the registration/screening exercise.
• M.Phil./Ph.D. candidates must contact the relevant departments to check for supervisor availability before applying.
• Dates for the ONLINE Qualifying Examinations and any additional information will be regularly advertised and provided on the website of the University of Lagos, School of Postgraduate Studies: http://spgs.unilag.edu.ng.
