Prospective applicants for Postgraduate Studies at the Federal University of Technology, Minna must have obtained five (5) credits in WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or GCE (‘O’ Level) or their equivalents. These credits must include English Language and Mathematics and should be obtained in not more than two sittings. Please note that admission will not be granted based on pending results, and no exemptions will be made for admission into any program.

PhD programme

  1. Candidates applying for the PhD Programme must have a Master’s degree from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, or any other recognized University, or equivalent qualifications accepted by the University Senate.
  2. Applicants for the PhD program at the University must have earned a weighted score average of 60% or a ‘B’ grade, or a CGPA of 3.50 out of 5.00 in their Master’s degree program.
  • Appropriate courses may be recommended for candidates whose academic background is deemed inadequate for their chosen areas of specialization. This decision is made at the discretion of the School/Department under the approved general regulations and guidelines of the Postgraduate School.

Master Degree Programmes

  1. A minimum of a second-class honours (lower division) degree from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, or any other recognized university.
  2. Candidates with a Third Class Honours Degree and at least 3 years of graduation experience in relevant fields may be considered. In some cases, passing a qualifying examination administered by the Department of the candidates, in consultation with the Postgraduate School, may be required. It’s important to note that this requirement doesn’t apply to the Engineering Schools (SEET and SIPET). Candidates with an HND and a minimum of Lower Credit, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant field and at least a minimum of Lower Credit and one year of graduation experience, may also be considered.

ii Just to clarify, candidates who have received a PASS grade at any level of their Degree, PGD, HND, or OND are not eligible for admission to the PhD, Master’s, or PGD programs.   • In all instances of admission, the ultimate determination regarding eligible candidates is within the purview of the Postgraduate School Board. Candidates possessing a background in the sciences are customarily given priority consideration.
  1. All Master’s degree programs mandate the completion of both coursework and research components without exception. A thesis defence and submission are required for a student to qualify for graduation.

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes

  1. A third-class honours degree in relevant fields may be considered.
  2. Candidates with an HND with a minimum of Lower Credit, or an OND with a Lower Credit in a relevant field and one year of post-graduation experience may be considered.

DURATION OF PROGRAMMES

PhD Programme

A full-time student must complete a minimum of six semesters (three academic sessions) and a maximum of ten semesters (five academic sessions).

A minimum of ten semesters (five academic sessions) and a maximum of fourteen semesters (seven academic sessions) for part-time students, respectively.

Master Degree Programmes

The Master’s degree programs are designed to span a minimum of three semesters for full-time students, with a maximum duration of six semesters. Part-time enrollment is not available for Master’s degree programs. Master’s degree students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.50 in every semester. Failure to meet this requirement will lead to dismissal from the program.

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes

Full-time students are expected to graduate in three semesters upon successful completion of their programs, provided they maintain a minimum CGPA of 1.50 each semester.

  2. Third-class Degree holders who are employees of disaster-related fields with five years cognate experience without PGD may be considered for admission, while other third-class Degree holders will require a Postgraduate Diploma in any of the areas listed above and at least 3 years of working experience in relevant fields.

Entry Requirements Professional PGD:

  1. Minimum of Third Class Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences, Social Sciences, Medicine, Agriculture, Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Town Planning, etc. from recognized Institutions.
  2. Minimum of Lower Credit pass in Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least 3 years of working experience in relevant fields.
  • Minimum of HND Lower Credit, B.Sc. Third class (Hon), in any discipline related to the environment from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, or any other Institution recognized by the Federal University of Technology, Minna. Priority will be given to Geography and sub-disciplines emanating from Geography; Agriculture disciplines (Animal Production, Crop Production, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Agricultural Extension,

Food science and Technology etc.), Urban and Regional Planning, Building, Quantity Surveying, Geoinformatics, and Architecture.

  • Minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Level Credits including English Language, Mathematics plus any other relevant subjects.

‘O’ Level Requirements

A minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Level Credits in English Language, Mathematics, and any other three subjects in either Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Biology/Agricultural Science or Economics at not more than two (2) sittings.

Entry Requirements Professional Masters:

  • First Degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower in any discipline in Environmental Sciences, Science, Social Science, Agriculture, or Engineering; or
  • A Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field for holders of Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Lower Credit.
  • First Degree graduates with a third class and a working experience of over three (3) years are also considered for admission, especially those in the Federal and state Ministry/ Agencies of the Environmental, Lands, Housing, and Urban Development.

Federal University of Technology Minna Postgraduate Form 2024/2025

To apply for the ABU postgraduate program for the 2024/2025 academic session, candidates must meet the specified entry requirements for each program and then obtain the admission form. How to Apply for FUTMINNA Postgraduate Admission Form 2024/2025:

  1. All applications for postgraduate programs must be submitted exclusively through the University website at futminna.edu.ng.
  2. The application forms will be available starting from January 23, 2024.
  3. All information requested on the online application form must be accurately completed, including current and active email addresses and phone numbers.
  4. Completed application forms must be submitted via the University portal no later than the 30th of April, 2024. All instructions on the completion of the form must be meticulously adhered to; failure to comply may lead to disqualification.
  5. Completed application forms must be printed out, as they will be required during registration upon successful admission.
  6. All MTech/MEng and PhD candidates are required to submit official transcripts of their previous degrees. Official transcripts may also be submitted via email to [email protected]. Additionally, PhD candidates must upload their research proposals aligned with their interests along with their applications before their admission can be processed.
    1. It is the responsibility of every candidate to ensure that the online referee reports are accurately completed and submitted by their referees before the closing date. A minimum of two (2) referees must be submitted online. Additionally, referees have the option to download their reports and send hard copies to the address provided above.
    2. Please ensure that all certificates are uploaded in their original form and color.

All successful applicants who receive provisional admission are required to remit a non-refundable acceptance fee of N20,000. Subsequently, they must complete the following registration procedures: the authentication of original credentials at the Postgraduate School, submission of school fees, and enrollment at Departments/Centers. These obligations must be fulfilled within a predetermined timeframe, as failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of the admission offer.
