UNIUYO Postgraduate Admission Requirement
ELIGIBILITY
A. To be eligible for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) program, applicants must be graduates of the University of Uyo or any other university recognized by the Senate of the University of Uyo. Alternatively, applicants can qualify if they hold qualifications deemed by the Senate to be equivalent to a first degree, or possess a recognized Higher National Diploma.
B. To be eligible for admission into a Master’s degree program, applicants must be graduates of the University of Uyo or any other university recognized by the Senate of the University of Uyo. Additionally, they should hold at least a Second Class Honours degree, regardless of their CGPA.
C. Candidates for admission to the M.Sc in Medical Microbiology must be graduates in one of the following fields:
(i) Microbiology,
(ii) Virology with a Postgraduate Diploma in Microbiology (PGDM)
(iii) MBBCh/MBBS or an equivalent qualification.
D. To qualify for admission into the Master’s degree program in Public Health, an applicant must be a graduate of an MBBS degree and have a full MDCN registration number.
E. To be eligible for admission into Doctoral Degree programs, applicants must be graduates of the University of Uyo or any other university recognized by the Senate of the University of Uyo. They should hold a Master’s degree that includes a dissertation and have achieved an overall CGPA of at least 60% (B).
F. Candidates seeking admission to the Integrated M.Phil/PhD program must have achieved an average mark between 55% and less than 60% in their Master’s degree program. This should be in a relevant discipline from the University of Uyo or any other university recognized by the Senate of the University of Uyo.
REQUIREMENTS
i. All applicants must have a credit pass in five relevant subjects at the Ordinary Level, including English Language, obtained in no more than two sittings. Candidates who completed their ‘O’ Level examinations before 2017 must possess their certificates and cannot submit statements of results or result slips.
ii. Applicants for the PGD in Law, LLM, and PhD in Law must have a credit pass in English Literature as one of the five relevant Ordinary Level subjects.
iii. Candidates for the Faculty of Agriculture must have a credit pass in chemistry as one of their five relevant Ordinary Level subjects.
iv. Applicants may need to take a screening test covering their area of specialization and engage in oral interaction within the Department.
v. All applicants must submit either NYSC Completion Certificates (Discharge Certificates), Exemption Certificates, or Exclusion Certificates. One of these certificates must be included with the application form or submitted before the screening exercise.
vi. Applicants who obtained their first degrees through remedial programs must provide evidence of having addressed the relevant subjects for their programs externally, specifically through WASCE, NECO, or NABTEB.
vii. Applicants must also fulfill the Departmental requirements for their programs.
viii. Applicants are required to submit their completed application forms along with two hard copies of the following documents, based on the program they are applying for:
– Project Proposal (for PGD applicants)
– Dissertation Proposal (for Master’s applicants)
– Thesis Proposal (for PhD applicants)
The research proposal must be formatted on the designated Postgraduate School Proposal Sheet. It should be typed in Times New Roman, font size 12, with one-and-a-half line spacing. Please use the specified headings in your proposal.
